Roof Mounting
flush rails with factory rails
The 5th-generation RAV4 (XA50, 2019-2024) ships with raised roof rails on all trims except the base LE β and therein lies the first engineering decision. Raised rails create a visible gap between rail and roof, which means crossbars clamp directly onto them without a vehicle-specific fit kit. The Thule Evo Raised Rail (710401) with WingBar Evo bars, or Yakima TimberLine towers with JetStream crossbars, are the two systems with verified perfect fitment across all railed trims. Critical dimension: the RAV4's rail-to-rail span measures approximately 42 inches, with a maximum front-to-rear crossbar spread of 37 inches. This accommodates cargo boxes up to the Thule Motion 3 XL (84.5 inches long) without overhang issues. The shark fin antenna sits 6 inches forward of the rear rail mount point. On most crossbar configurations, this is not an obstruction β but if you slide the rear bar to its most rearward position, verify 2 inches of clearance to the antenna housing. [ADD PERSONAL EXPERIENCE] For the LE trim without rails: you need the Thule Evo Clamp (710501) foot pack plus the vehicle-specific Fit Kit 145269. This adds $80-120 to total system cost. The clamp feet grip the doorframe edges β torque to manufacturer spec (6 Nm) and recheck after 50 miles.
